OptiFrac Chemical Services (a division of Mud Master Drilling Fluid Services Ltd.) was established in 2009 as an independent Canadian chemical provider. We focus on providing unique chemistry to the stimulation, production and coiled tubing sectors of our market with an emphasis on solid product performance, serviced by our collective and relevant oilfield experience. Robert Nieuwesteeg

Rob holds a bachelor’s degree from Carleton University. He has over 18 years of experience in the Western Canadian energy sector, beginning with MI Drilling Fluids as a field service engineer. From there, Rob continued his drilling fluid career with Reef Mud, Drilling Specialties and Halliburton. In 1998, Rob joined Mud Master Drilling Fluids as a technical sales rep in Calgary. Rob’s experience in the field and operations background helped to grow Mud Master over the next few years. In 2003, Rob became a partner in Mud Master. Today Rob serves as President of Mud Master and its completions/production chemical division OptiFrac. Rob is involved in all aspects of the company; with his focus being sales and business development.

Vice President

Dean Webster P. Eng.

Dean is a Professional Engineer with thirty years of experience in the oil and gas, environmental, and transportation industries. He brings a wealth of management experience to the company. Previously, Dean was Senior Vice President for a public oilfield service company that provided a diverse range of products and services, including drilling and service rigs, oilfield rentals, down hole tools, lease construction, environmental remediation and safety services. Prior to that, he held various management positions with a private company providing oilfield, environmental and transportation services, most recently on the company’s executive team as Vice President, Marketing and Business Development. Dean also worked for the Energy Resources Conservation Board (now Alberta Energy Regulator) as a reservoir and environmental engineer.

Chief Financial Officer

Jerry Nieuwesteeg

Jerry has a Bachelor of Mathematics degree with a major in finance, from the University of Waterloo. He has over 30 years of experience in various areas of the oil and gas industry. Jerry joined Mud Master in 2010 and is using the skills he has acquired from previous positions to effectively manage the corporate financial operations of Mud Master. Over the course of his career, Jerry has spent 4 years managing various crude oil blending facilities, 22 years in all aspects of crude oil marketing/trading and 5 years in corporate tax compliance with a few different companies. Jerry is an avid outdoor enthusiast with cycling and skiing his main passions. He is married to Janet and has two children, Carter and Emma.

Glen Gresty

Glen has been in the oil and gas sector for over 24 years, from the transportation side to spending the last 14 years in production chemicals. Glen has held management positions at previous companies with a strong focus and experience in sales, distribution, and facility operations. Glen’s production chemical background has allowed him to help grow operations by assisting with well optimization. Glen has also helped expand our coiled tubing market from our base of operations in Grande Prairie.

Gary Refshauge

Gary has over 40 years of oilfield experience that encompass many aspects of the business, including compression, logistics and many years dealing in production and completion chemicals. Gary’s sales efforts have been instrumental in generating a considerable amount of business from the field, and Gary’s experience also provides us a wealth of relevant industry contacts.

Don Gallant

Don’s career in the oil and gas industry began with Mud Master Drilling Fluid Services in 2001. In his 14 years of experience with Mud Master and OptiFrac, Don has been instrumental in fostering relationships with our clients to ensure their service and product requirements are being met. Don also possesses extensive field experience creating a database of invaluable knowledge.

Technical Sales

Wade Larsen

Wade Larsen has a wealth of technical sales experience and looks to parlay that expertise into business opportunities for OptiFrac along with its sister company, Mud Master Drilling Fluid Services. Prior to joining OptiFrac, Wade spent several years on the service side, both in the field and in technical sales for a number of service companies. Wade has been in the chemical side of the oil and gas industry for 25+ years, with a keen focus on bringing value to his client’s operations.

Allison Brown

Allison has a bachelor’s degree from Athabasca University. She has 10 years’ experience selling downhole tools/chemicals and services in the upstream petroleum industry. She began working for OptiFrac in the summer of 2017. Her focus is on sales and business development; she spends her time cultivating relationships with her clientele in Calgary and has worked to gain awareness of both Mud Master and OptiFrac. In her spare time, Allison enjoys skiing, hiking, teaching/practicing yoga and spending time with her husband, son and dog.

Sydney Webster

Sydney has a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Physiology from Simon Fraser University. She then completed a 2-year certificate at the University of Calgary in Health, Safety and Environment. She has 6 years of experience working in a health, safety and environmental role for companies in the production, service, and seismic aspects of the oil and gas industry. She joined Mud Master in 2015 and has developed and grown the HSE program to ensure all divisions of the company operate as best as possible in regard to health, safety, and environmental responsibility. Sydney spends much of her spare time hiking, backpacking or skiing, and loves to travel as often as she can.
